This research site documents the traditions, stories and services of real black farmers. It’s also a storytelling platform that focuses exclusively on the Black Belt Region — counties from Virginia to Texas with large African-American populations. These counties and their rural residents have been historically and systematically underdeveloped and underresourced. Yet, they have the potential to play a key role in our 21st-century economy. The goal: share the region’s narratives and inspire realistic solutions to help the South’s underserved communities sustain for generations to come.
