My research site documents the traditions, stories and services of black farmers and rural communities. I focus my work exclusively on the Black Belt Region — counties from Virginia to Texas with large African-American populations. These counties and their residents have been historically and systematically underdeveloped and underresourced. Yet, they have the potential to play a key role in our 21st-century economy. The goal: share the region’s narratives and inspire realistic solutions to help the South’s underserved communities sustain for generations to come.
